My Feelings on Halloween

by Sara on October 29th, 2008

I really, really wish that I could get into Halloween.

Yes, I’m one of those people who’s not big on being a skanky whatever for a day…

When I was a kid, I was a bunny, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Minnie Mouse, and a bride.

Last year, I was a fairy. I liked having sparkly wings!

My Halloween fantasy includes dressing up as a flapper from the 1950s and having my boyfriend dress up like James Lafferty, my Nathan from “One Tree Hill”. ;) Oh, and my Halloween fantasy includes a dog, of course. My doggie would be a bumblebee.

:) Happy Boo Day!

Sara’s Super-Duper Fabulous 22nd Birthday List

by Sara on October 26th, 2008

As you all SHOULD know, I’m turning 22 (!!) in a mere two weeks, and I realize that you’re ALL wondering what exactly to get me for my birthday.

To offer you a little help, I’ve composed a birthday list:

-A dog. Yes, I still want a dog. A REAL one. I have a (long) list of specifications: Yorkie (probably a Toy Yorkie, unless you’re Jordan, then you’ll never get me this; a boy doggie; black and tan in coloring; A LOVE OF CUDDLING!!; and, most importantly, POTTY-TRAINED).

-Outfits for my dog. Yes, I’m going to dress my dog up in sweaters. Of course, if you get me a dog outfit but no dog, I’ll be forever depressed and my birthday will be ruined. So don’t take that chance…get me the dog, too!! :) I’m specifically interested in a really obnoxious doggy Christmas sweater…

-A penguin. Yup, I’d like someone to steal a penguin for me from a zoo. I have a book of penguin photos, and a stuffed penguin, but I’d like to add a real penguin to the mix. Whoever completes this challenge will be my hero.

-Brown boots. I really, really, REALLY want a nice pair of tall brown boots, either with a heel or not. If you’re serious about getting me these, I’ll take the liberty of picking some out for you. Don’t worry :)

-Leggings. I want some black leggings.

-Yummy tea. Like organic chai tea, or a gift card to like Caribou or something. :)

-Hmmm, I’m realizing that I went from the completely implausible to the completely possible. BORING! Um…A PLANE TICKET TO WILMINGTON, NC FOR SPRING BREAK 2009! (I need, I mean DESPERATELY NEED, to meet James Lafferty of “One Tree Hill”)

-Tickets to the Summer Olympics in 2012 in London. Yes, I’m serious. I desperately want to go.

-A car. Lately, I’m wanting a VW Bug. Probably black, although Brooke Davis is inspiring me to get sky blue…anyway, any shade would be appreciated. No convertible top, though; I’m looking to save YOU money.

-Rachael Ray pots & pans. And yes, I’m serious about this one; when I get married someday, I’m totally registering for these.

Ok, that’s all for now.

Lots of animals. I suppose you could add a giraffe to the list…that would save me jail time in getting one for Jordan for Christmas.

Geeses & Snow!!

by Sara on October 26th, 2008

Hi! I’m feeling about 80% … can’t wait until I’m feeling all better!

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to post about geeses (yes, I know the proper term is “geese”, but it’s a long story; I call them “geeses”).

My drive to class or to my internship takes me the same route each day: Winnetka Avenue to HWY 55 to HWY 100-S to 394-E Downtown Exit. Even if that route means nothing to you, here’s the point of me telling you this: there are locations along this route that I see between 10-20 geeses EVERY DAY.

And each time that I drive by these locations, I scream “HI GEESES!” and I smile. It usually makes my morning, and if I don’t see any geeses on the way to work or school, it usually makes me a little sad.

Jordan, my boyfriend, tells me that geeses are really mean. He used to have some DUCKS on his farm in Harrisburg, SD, and he has experienced angry birds, including geeses that hiss at you. Apparently, Jordan and I took a bike ride once in Sioux Falls and came upon a flock (is that the right term?) of geeses, and they hissed at a little boy. I must have blocked out that memory, because all I see when I look at geeses is FUN!

So…the moral of this little story: This week, I didn’t see ANY geeses for like, three days. I was depressed…I thought they migrated. But, to my surprise on Thursday, there they were!!! I screamed “HI GEESES!” extra loud this day, because I was so happy that my friends had returned. :)

SNOW! It snowed flurries today in the Cities! Woo! No accumulation as of yet, thank goodness; snowfall accumulation is not allowed before my birthday, which, to remind you all, is in TWO WEEKS!!

Wishing you all snowflake kisses and happy raking!

Being Sick = Suck

by Sara on October 24th, 2008

Hi…

I am getting sick.

My head is pounding, my nose is stuffy, my throat is scratchy. My body hurts like someone decided to stomp on it while I was sleeping last night.

This is what I need:

-Chicken noodle soup, and someone to make it for me
-My Mom’s homemade hot chocolate, and someone to make it for me
-A massage, and someone to give it to me
-Medicine, and someone to get it for me
-A cuddling session, and someone to help me with this
-A dog, and someone to get it for me (because I always need a dog)

Notice a pattern?

I’m completely helpless and miserable when I’m sick.

I always plead to God that if I could just be well again, I would never take feeling well for granted ever again.

Feel free to take this as a cue to come visit me.

Jon & Kate!

by Sara on October 22nd, 2008

Many of you may know that I am completely obsessed with the TLC show, “Jon & Kate Plus 8″.

For those of you who don’t know (and live under a rock, obviously), the show follows Jon and Kate Gosselin, their twin girls and their sextuplets (8 kids in total).

I’m watching a marathon on TLC as I write this.

Here’s what watching “Jon & Kate” makes me think of:

-Starting traditions with my kids someday
-Christmas! (watching the Christmas episode)
-Having 8 kids. Yes, I’m serious.
-Doggies. Because everything makes me think of doggies.

Watch it sometime. I’m serious, you’ll get hooked.

Fall Break: The HECUA Version

by Sara on October 19th, 2008

Hi all!

I have just returned from a fulfilling and exciting weekend at home in South Dakota…I love fall break. Taking a step back from school just gives me fresh perspective. Sad to say that my motivation is still waning due to a hefty dose of senioritis that is setting in…hopefully I can work hard enough to keep it at bay.

I arrived home on Wednesday evening, and Jordan and I went out for dinner. I woke up on Thursday morning and cuddled with Josie my kitty (!!) before heading off to my dentist appointment (no cavities, I’m proud to report). After that, I went home and learned that because my Mom is/was fighting one heck of a cold, we were rescheduling Brian’s senior pictures to Saturday afternoon. That was fine with me; I was sleepy! I read one chapter of 1984 and took a little nap with Josie. Around 5:30 p.m., I went into town and spent the rest of the evening with Jordan. We went out to eat at Outback (I don’t care what you say, it’s delicious food!) and I discovered that I LOVE scallops! :)

Friday morning I met with my soon-to-be boss at the American Coalition for Ethanol, and I’m SO excited to be coming back to work there! All of the staff was very warm and welcoming, and everyone asked about my time in the Cities and how I’m enjoying school and internship here. It was great to see everyone again! After my meeting, Jordan and I had SPAGHETTI FRIDAY (cuz Friday is the new Tuesday, I guess). It was DELICIOUS. We then went to: Mini-Critters (I have a dog obsession and I need to feed it sometimes by looking at cute dogs through a plexiglass window); Target; the Empire Mall; Best Buy; and we also went apartment hunting (more about this soon!!) !!! I think that’s it. And then we went back to Jordan’s apartment and watched “Scrubs” and had fun being a LAZY couple!

Saturday around noon my family and I attended my little cousin Alex’s 3rd birthday party. He’s such a cutie! This party was a great excuse to see a bunch of family, and it was a lot of fun, despite the chilly (ok, seriously cold) weather. That afternoon, the weather warmed up quite a bit: perfect weather for outdoor photo-taking!! Brian and I took photos together, and then he took photos for each sport. We worked with a great photographer, and it was an enjoyable experience! If you’d like to see a few of Brian’s photos, click here. Slide your mouse over “Galleries” and click “Senior Guys”. Saturday night, Jordan and I went and visited his parents and his grandma, which is always so much fun :) :)

Sunday morning I went to church and out to breakfast with my Grandma and two of my aunts. I also had coffee with my cousin Kristen, and visited my Jordan at the mall before heading home to say goodbye to my family.

I’m now sitting in my bedroom watching “Brothers & Sisters” and I am absolutely EXHAUSTED!

More tomorrow. Much love :)
